JDA–Municipal Corporation–Traffic Police Review Draft: 129 km Metro, 245 km Bus Network & 25 Flyover Proposals

A Mega 30-Year Mobility Plan for Jaipur

To tackle Jaipur’s rising traffic congestion and daily bottlenecks, a comprehensive mobility plan (CMP) for the city has been prepared. Officials from the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA), Municipal Corporation, and Traffic Police reviewed the draft presentation and shared their suggestions. The plan has been designed keeping in mind the city’s traffic requirements, population growth, and road network expansion for the next 30 years.

Inclusion of feedback is underway, and the final report will be ready by the end of December before being submitted to Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma. After government approval, implementation will begin. Jaipur now has 35.9 lakh registered vehicles, and traffic jams are common even on wider roads. Therefore, the focus of this plan is on strengthening public transport and reducing carbon emissions.

Final Report Will Be Sent to the Government; Implementation Only After Approval

The draft places major emphasis on the expansion of the metro network.
It includes:

  1. Metro Expansion – 129.55 km Proposed
  • Phase-2: Prahladpura to Todimod
  • Future plans for Phase-3 and Phase-4
  • A total metro network length of 129.55 km by 2055
  1. Proposed 245 km Bus Route Network

To improve overall city connectivity:

  • 245 km of new bus routes are proposed
  • Number of buses to be increased to 4,050
  • A 214 km feeder route network for metro stations and major corridors will be developed
  1. Boost to Non-Motorized Transport

To encourage eco-friendly mobility:

  • Expansion of footpath networks
  • Dedicated cycling tracks
  • Launch of Public E-Bike Sharing at metro stations
  1. Parking Reforms
  • No Parking Zones’ and ‘On-Street Paid Parking’ proposed within the walled city
  • Multi-level parking facilities recommended at railway stations and other high-demand points
  1. Transport Governance Upgrade

A major proposal in the plan is to upgrade the Traffic Control Board into a Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (UMTA) to ensure better coordination and efficient citywide mobility management.
