Jaipur gets approval to become an AVGC hub; studio to be built in Jhalana, ₹70 crore to be spent, tender this week
700 AVGC startups in the state; an innovation studio will be built, no need to go to Mumbai for short movies and animation series
Jaipur is set to become a major hub for AVGC (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics). Financial approval has been granted to develop Jaipur as an AVGC hub. Following this, the Department of Information Technology & Communication (DoITC) has started preparations to establish an Ultra Innovation Studio and Accelerator. Tenders for this project will be released this week.
This studio will be set up on the 8th floor of the e-Governance building at Jhalana Polytechnic College campus. With an investment of around ₹70 crore, the studio will allow startups in the state to create short films, animation series, and digital productions locally, eliminating the need to travel to cities like Mumbai or Ahmedabad for production work.
Earlier, the state government had announced plans in the 2024 budget to set up such innovation studios in Jaipur, Bharatpur, Bikaner, and Udaipur. Approval has now been granted for the Jaipur studio, while proposals from other districts are still pending. The state’s AVGC-XR policy was also implemented in December 2024.
Boost to Digital Content and Employment
Once the studio becomes operational, digital content can be produced in the production house itself. This will create more employment opportunities for local artists and youth. Digital studios will provide training in robotics kits, coding platforms, and AI tools, giving startups practical exposure.
Many startups left the state due to lack of facilities
According to the DPIIT, around 7,600 startups are registered in the state, of which nearly 700 are related to the AVGC sector. Due to lack of proper facilities, many startups had shifted to other cities like Mumbai and Ahmedabad for shooting and production work. The establishment of this studio is expected to stop this migration.
Tender process ongoing in e-Governance building
The tender process for setting up the studio in the e-Governance building is currently underway. Once ready, Jaipur will emerge as a major AVGC hub. The innovation studio will be equipped with advanced equipment and high-end facilities, providing startups with better infrastructure.
