How to Find Study Accommodation in Jaipur

Many of Jaipur’s colleges and institutions provide student accommodation at their on-campus hostels. Other than that, the city encompasses a large number of PGs and rooms and apartments on rent. Many families also provide homestays to students coming from other states or cities. You can know more about the different types of accommodation in our previous post on “Where to Live in Jaipur?”

But now, the question is – how to actually find these places to live in? It seems intimidating to look for a place to stay (a hostel, PG accommodation, apartment or room on rent or, a homestay) in an entirely new location or city. But it’s not that difficult if you follow the right tips and tricks. Here are some ways which can prove helpful in finding a good study accommodation in Jaipur.

Through Colleges/Universities/Institutions

The college, university or institution that you have taken admission in can help you look out for a suitable accommodation easily. Many of them have their own on-campus hostels, which you can enroll into. Some do have contacts of paying guest accommodation providers. Many times they can introduce you to seniors who are living nearby to make it easier for you to find a good place.

You can also use your institute’s notice board to reach out to people. If you share your requirement of a good place to live in, possibilities are that someone would reach out for your help.

By Word of Mouth

This is another good way to find a suitable accommodation nearby. Just tell as many people as you can that you are looking for a place to live. The more you talk about what you are looking for, the more are the chances that someone might suggest you a good place. Make friends with seniors at college and ask them for help. They’ll be able to suggest you better places from their experience about the locality.

Finding Accommodation Online

Internet is a great tool, which is capable of helping you find a good accommodation as well. There are websites that allow you to search for paying guest accommodations as well as for rooms and apartments on rent. Some of the widely used sites for finding accommodation in Jaipur include 99acres.com, CommonFloor, quikr, magicbricks.com and roomrentjaipur.com.

You can enter your preferred location, amenities that you need such as TV, geyser, parking, etc. and budget. These websites will display a list of options with photographs of the place and the contact of the owner.

Things to Remember

When you start looking for study accommodation in Jaipur (hostels, paying guest accommodations, homestays or rented rooms and apartments) you must keep some things in mind. They will help you get the right accommodation at one go and prevent confusions and conflicts later.

  • Check if your room is furnished or not. The cost will vary according to the amount and quality of furnishing. Most of the PGs and hostels will provide you basically furnished rooms. However, you must ensure that everything is in the right condition. Report in advance in case of any damage you notice.
  • You must enquire about ‘deposit money’ (if any) in advance. Most accommodations in Jaipur have a refundable deposit amount, which is often equivalent to one month’s rent. You are likely to get this back if you leave the room in good condition. Some landlords only return your deposit amount if you notify them one month prior to leaving the room. Do make sure that you have complete information about all these little details.
  • Most of the accommodations in Jaipur including hostel rooms and PG rooms have the gas, water and electricity charges included in their rent. But some do not. So confirm in advance - what utility charges are included in your monthly rent and what are not. This will prevent any confusion or clash later.
  • Some accommodations also provide Wi-Fi facility. Some areas come under Wi-Fi free zone, which gives you access to free internet. Some people can provide password-restricted Wi-Fi at fixed monthly charges.

Conclusion

Looking for a study accommodation on your own is a mammoth task. Keep your eyes and ears open and keep trying to get to know about more and more homes, apartments and paying guest accommodations, so that you find a good one soon.
