Jaipur to Become the World’s First City to Host Polo Tournaments for 12 Months

Polo currently lasts for 7 months; preparations are underway to extend it to 12 months, and floodlights will be installed

For the past several years, Jaipur has had a 7-month polo season. Now, preparations are being made to conduct polo throughout all 12 months in Jaipur. For this purpose, the Rajasthan Polo Club is preparing to install floodlights at its ground.

If this plan is implemented, Jaipur will become the first city in the world where polo enthusiasts can enjoy the sport throughout the year. Night polo matches will be organized especially during the peak summer months.

Padmanabh Singh, a polo star of the country and an Arjuna Award nominee, said,
“We want to place Jaipur polo on the world map. Our goal is to ensure that polo is played here throughout the year, so that players from India and across the world can come and enjoy polo in any season.”

Horses Will Be Trained Separately for Night Polo

There is a difference between day polo and night polo. For playing polo under floodlights, horses will be trained separately. While there isn’t a major difference, it is necessary to train the horses under floodlights at least a day before the match.

Three International Matches in January

The Jaipur Polo January season has begun. Along with regular tournaments, three international matches will also be organized this January. These include:

  • One match between France and India
  • One match between India and the Ireland women’s team
  • A third match between Mayo College and Eton College

International Tournament Planned

Padmanabh Singh stated that next year Jaipur will complete 300 years. On this occasion, an international polo tournament may be organized in Jaipur. Teams from Ireland, South Africa, England, and Argentina will be invited to participate.
