Reliance Jio 4G Speeds are Down: shows reports by Ookla and Digit

Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited has gained much fame due to launching its Jio sim that offers free voice calls for lifetime and 4G high speed data plans for free till December 31 and at lesser prices than the other networks.

However, Reliance Jio 4G speeds have gone down post its launch in September, shows report from the Speedtest app maker Ookla.

The above image shows how Reliance Jio 4G speeds are down since its launch. But on the other hand the overall LTE network coverage has increased in India. The data collected by Speedtest app maker Ookla shows the LTE network coverage in India has increased since the ‘Welcome offer’ went live in the month of September.

Speedtest by Ookla

The Speedtest app and website by a company named Ookla is one app and website service that several users trust and use for testing Internet speeds on their devices.

Data shared by Ookla suggests that several people have been doing speed tests on Jio 4G LTE network. Also the speed tests done by Reliance Jio 4G users have been significantly higher than those carried out by other network users in India.

Jio 4G speeds declining

According to the Speedtest app’s data, the average Jio 4G speeds have been declining since September 2016. The speeds have decreased significantly, say, by 23% month-over-month for 4G enabled phones, going from 11.31 mbps to 8.77 mbps, following a continuous downward trend.

Reliance’s claims of an average speed of 135 mbps are a dream for now. Even the top 10% of tests averaged out to be giving a speed of 17.77 mbps in the month of September.

More users on the 4G LTE network

However, even after Reliance’s failure in providing the promised 135 mbps speed the number of users on the LTE network is increasing. Stats by Ookla show a big jump in the number of Reliance 4G LTE users over time.

However, Reliance Jio’s full-fledged commercial launch is going to take place on January 1, 2017. So, we can only wait till then to see how many users will stay on this network once they’ll have to pay for the data plans and what speed will Jio be providing then. Reliance Jio will definitely have to get the 4G speeds back in order to retain its users.

Reliance Jio Speeds across different cities

Reliance Jio has got over 1.6 million subscribers in India so soon, which is why the declining speeds aren’t that surprising. After a few weeks of Jio entering the market officially, there have been a number of complaints against the declining speeds, dropping calls and more.

As per data by Digit Magazine, the national average download speed on Reliance Jio is 19.2 mbps and upload speed is 4 mbps. The results on Jio speeds across different cities in India will help users make a conscious choice about whether to switch to Reliance Jio connection or not.
