Relief from Traffic Jams in Walled City and Govind Marg

Two Updates Related to Public Convenience: Relief from Traffic Jams in Walled City and Govind Marg

Subway from Ramniwas Bagh Parking to Ramlila Maidan; Traders Will Exit Directly into the Walled City

After parking vehicles in the underground parking at Ramniwas Bagh, people will no longer need to cross the road. JDA (Jaipur Development Authority) is preparing to construct a subway directly connecting the underground parking to Ramlila Maidan.

JDA Secretary Dr. Jitendra Singh reviewed the Ramniwas Bagh and parking arrangements. Observing traffic pressure and the inconvenience caused by crossing the road after parking, officials were instructed to prepare a report for constructing a subway.

This subway will connect Ramniwas Bagh parking with Ramlila Maidan and Bapu Bazaar. A feasibility report will be prepared within two months.

Major Benefit:
Visitors, traders, and tourists traveling between the parking area and the market will get direct connectivity and will not need to cross the main road. People visiting the markets will also be able to use the parking facility conveniently.

10,000 People to Benefit

  • The underground parking at Ramniwas Bagh accommodates about 2,500 two-wheelers and four-wheelers.
  • Additionally, around 5,000 tourists visit Ramniwas Park and Albert Hall.
  • All of them currently have to cross the road to reach the walled city area. The subway will provide organized access.

Ramniwas Bagh Will Be Further Developed:
Facilities for domestic and foreign tourists will be expanded, and JDA will also undertake beautification.

Govind Marg to Be Widened from 60 Feet to 100 Feet

Technical Sub-Committee Report Sought

There are preparations to widen Govind Marg from Narayan Singh Circle to Transport Nagar and further toward Kanota Dam Road.

The proposal was approved in a Traffic Control Board (TCB) meeting. According to the master plan, the road is proposed to be 100 feet wide, but currently, it is only 50–60 feet wide.

The total stretch is about 4 km, and in some sections, it narrows to 3 km. Due to insufficient width, even a divider cannot be constructed, leading to frequent traffic jams.

A technical sub-committee has been formed to prepare a report regarding the road widening. Further action will be taken based on the report.

Bhaskar Insight: Elevated Road Planning Failed Twice

  • Two attempts were previously made to construct an elevated road to ease traffic congestion on Govind Marg, but both plans failed at the ground level.
  • Traders on Govind Marg opposed the project, stating that construction of an elevated road would affect their businesses.
  • Now, a committee will prepare a compensation-related report.

Subway Plan Was Also Made 10 Years Ago

  • During Phase 1 of Ramniwas Bagh underground parking, there was a plan to build a subway connecting it to the road.
  • Later, it was decided that traders would be transported to the market by buses after parking.
  • Two to three buses were arranged to drop traders to the market.
  • The service started but failed and was discontinued about six months ago.
  • Traders stopped parking their vehicles there, and traffic congestion in the markets remained unchanged.
  • After Phase 2 of the parking project, people have again started parking vehicles there.
