Rajasthan becomes number one in the Gyan Bharatam Mission; survey of 1.5 million manuscripts, more than 53,000 pages digitized

Rajasthan is preserving its cultural heritage and ancient knowledge by emerging as a leading state in the country. Under the Gyan Bharatam Mission, a survey of more than 1.5 million manuscripts has already been completed in the state, which is the highest in the country. The state is also rapidly advancing in the field of digitization. So far, 53,322 pages have been scanned at the Rajasthan Sanskrit Academy.

AI-based translation: Read Vedas and Puranas from home

According to State Nodal Officer Dr. Lata Shrimali, the next phase of the mission will be based on modern technology. After digitization, these manuscripts will be translated into Hindi, English, and other languages using Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari inspected the work at the Vedic Heritage Manuscript Research Institute and directed officials to speed up the survey process.

Digital data will be secure; ownership will remain with original holders

  • Under the mission, only digital data of the manuscripts is being secured, while ownership will remain with the original custodians.
  • Rare manuscripts from the 14th to 16th centuries have also been included in the survey.
  • Various scriptures and genealogical records of royal families are part of this mission.

Survey target and implementation

  • Surveyors will be appointed in every district, with a target to complete an intensive survey within 3 months.
  • Chief Secretary Sudhansh Pant has directed district collectors to appoint subject experts related to Sanskrit for the survey.
  • Three regional centers and one central hub are operating under the mission.
  • Manuscripts related to Ayurveda, astrology, mathematics, and religion will become easily accessible for researchers.

According to Divisional Commissioner and Administrative Officer V. Ravin Kumar:

  • The survey of manuscripts will be expedited further.
  • The goal is to collect data from all regions within the next three months.
