train

The train sets you on an exciting week-long trip to splendid forts and palaces of Rajasthan. It also takes you to Taj Mahal, Agra, which is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. History and Royal Background of the Palace of Wheels

The Palace On Wheels started on January 26, 1982.

The concept of this luxury train in India came from the royal background of luxurious coaches, which were used by the erstwhile rulers of the princely states of Rajputana, Gujarat, the Nizam of Hyderabad and the Viceroy of British India. After independence, the luxurious personal coaches used by the erstwhile rulers were parked and kept in the state for several years. But then in 1981-82, the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation and Indian Railways launched this special heritage train for tourists to experience royal luxury.
